Wan Hai Lines plans direct services from Taiwan to Cambodia

TAIWAN-BASED container shipper, Wan Hai Lines, is planning to launch direct shipping services to Cambodia from September 21, at a time when the Taiwan government is pushing its "New Southbound" initiative.
The shipping company said it is upbeat about an increase in shipping volume under the initiative aimed at markets in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as companies face declining returns in mainland China. The policy also targets countries in South Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
It will be Wan Hai's first direct shipping services for customers eyeing the Cambodia market, who will no longer need to change vessels as they did in the past, accoding to Focus Taiwan News Channel.
According to Wan Hai, the new service will start from Shekou in China every Thursday and will sail to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Laem Chabang in Thailand, then on to Sihanoukville in Cambodia before returning to Shekou. The new route is coded the South China-Thailand-Cambodia (CTK) service, Wan Hai said.
The company said it will use two 1,000 TEU vessels on the new weekly service with each journey taking 14 days. | | | | | | | |
